Technically, any shirt worn into combat becomes a combat shirt. Even your crusty old White Zombie band tee from Hot Topic. You didn't even get it on tour man, c'mon.
That said, the Combat Shirt concept is to take the heavy duty sleeves of a field coat, and combine that with a breathable fabric for the torso -- the end result is a shirt that is way cooler and comfortable to wear with body armor that still protects you from the environment with heavy nylon sleeves. With Flame Resistant materials like aramid, you've just created a cost justification to the US MIC to charge them more!
Because of the softer material on the torso, these shirts do wear faster than traditional field coats. So consider stocking up because they aren't as abrasion resistant. And when in doubt, go a size up because of the elasticity on the body of the shirt. Too small and you'll look all kinds of fat and then you'll feel bad.
Notes on color and manufacturers:
The ABU, OCP and UCP variants are entirely the Flame Resistant (FR) patterns with padded, rubberized elbows. Best we could tell is that Massif is a brand name for these shirts and there are several subcontractors that have made them for Massif and the US military. There are versions with zip up collars and those without. The common denominator is the rubberized elbow pads and FR aramid blends.
As such, we aren't going to get too granular with these and separate them all by type, etc. Versions of these shirts retail for $273 on Massif website. All our samples range from slight and barely used, to looks new, to some have tags on them. As such you are guaranteed to get something Grade 2 or better. The ones we consider Grade 2 are shown with discoloration more than any fraying or structural issue.
